Floating sous vide bags kill more that 3 million people each year. JUST KIDDING! But those frustrating floaters that ruin your food can actually be dangerous too. There are many inventive solutions for floating bags. Our favorite is the sous vide rack. It is cheap, simple, and effective.
Floating bags are sous vide sin #1. Floaters are bad because they don’t heat at the right temperature for the right amount of time. And that’s the heart of sous vide. Floating bags prevent the sous vide magic that we all want. They can also cause bacteria to infect your food because the temperatures are too low.
Never fear. The sous vide rack is the easy way to keep your bags submerged. Here are some of the best on the market.
This Pbogo rack is unique. The dividers are full sheets of metal that also create additional heat transfer. We have found this to be most helpful when cooking meat, especially thicker cuts. The Pbogo rack is made from food grade stainless steel. It won’t release harsh chemicals, rust, or fall apart. The construction is extremely high quality. The welded joints are clean and smooth. There are no sharp edges to cut your fingers or rip your sous vide bags. The rack is adjustable too. You can control the size of the open spaces to fit small or large bags. Or even some small bags and some large ones. A huge advantage of this sous vide rack is the anti-float bar on the top. If the design and friction of the rack wont keep your floaters down, this bar certainly will.
- High quality construction
- Food Grade Stainless Steel
- Heat Transfer Dividers

Lipavi is one of the most trusted names in sous vide cooking equipment. The key feature of their white polycarbonate racks is compatibility with other Lipavi products. This model comes in 3 sizes: 10 qt, 15 qt, and 20 qt. They call them “Family” size, “Family and Friends” size, and “Party” size. These models are constructed with embedded steel weights, so the racks themselves are heavy and sturdy enough for the job. The dividers are fully adjustable to accommodate various bag sizes and shapes. The rack is also easy to break down and store.
- Comes is many sizes
- Fully adjustable rack
- Food Grade Polycarbonate
- Easy storage, space saver
- Cheaper than the steel Lipavi model
The L10X is a more advanced – and more expensive sous vide rack from Lipavi. The stainless steel is food grade and even designed to withstand the challenges of marine environments. The construction is even more sturdy and durable than the polycarbonate version. This one will last for generations. The best feature is the anti-float rack that sits on top. Many times the rack alone is sufficient to hold the bags in place, but frozen meats and some vegetables can be very naughty floaters. This rack will put those bags on lock down. No doubt about it. Like the polycarbonate models. Lipavi makes stainless steel racks for 10 qt, 15, qt, and 20 qt. containers.

This Everie rack combines stainless steel and plastic. You get some of the functionality and durability of the steel. And you get the reduced costs of using plastic. The rack fits all 10 and 12 qt containers. It is fully adjustable and breaks down for easy storage. The best feature is the locking mechanism for the dividers. Many other dividers “snap” into position. This rack has dividers the slide into place. This keeps them secure and stable, especially while immersed in waters for several hours. We like the idea, functionality, and price of this rack. But the appearance needs some work. Nevertheless, it works well and is one of the cheapest quality models.

This Everie rack is one of the best in the market. It has the anti-float bar that keeps even the most buoyant bags in place. The adjustable dividers are also secured with a simple to use design. The ends of the divider slide into recessed holes in the rack body. This prevents the dividers from wobbling and keeps your food in place. This sous vide rack is made from food grade stainless steel. So durability and quality are no issue at all. Everie makes this model in 2 sizes. The smaller one is for 7 qt containers. The large one is for 12 qt containers.

This Yayi rack is unique for its vertical design. The special feature of this rack it that it will work with non-typical sous vide cooking. The rack has curved hooks on top that hang like an over the door towel rack. This rack will work if you do your sous vide in a large pot or other non-typical container. Of course, it will work for the normal sous vide machines as well. We have not found any difference between the vertical or horizontal place of sous vide bags. The point is that the bag is fully immersed. The relative position of horizontal or vertical has made an difference that we can detect in taste or texture. In fact, the vertical design eliminates the need for a anti-float top bar. So this Yayi rack is a definite winner for all you rogue sous vide cooks out there.
- Fits Non-Typical Containers
- Vertical Rack
- Stainless Steel Strong
- Adjustable Racks
We love the look of the spiral dividers. The design is the most special feature of this rack. It just looks cool. But the design is also functional. The spirals serve to hole the bags in place with more and varied surface area. Made of food grade stainless steel, the construction is solid and durable. The racks is easy to build and break down. The spiral dividers do not store quite as easily and the flat ones, but they don’t take up that much space.
